Adepta Sororitas – Rhino

I have chosen to showcase my Rhino’s for the Adepta Sororitas.  I have not glued the front cupola, which allows me to switch it out between the Rhino and Immolator guns.  I just haven’t gotten around to painting the Immolator turret yet.  I used a wide highlight of Burnished Gold and Mithril Silver to cool the gold down.  A wide stroke was necessary due to the size of the model.

Zone Mortalis Research

I would like to play some Zone Mortalis games.  I am lacking the thematic terrain to pull it off.  I plan on organizing a Badab War campaign soon and it will be nice to have some Zone Mortalis or a close replica to play on.  I’ve been scouring the internets and I am looking for opinions and experience with Zone Mortalis.

Space Marines Carcharodons- Sevrin Loth WIP February 20

Here’s Loth after the varnish and then a base layer of paint applied.  I made sure to not paint over the recesses to allow natural shadows to pop.  I thought I had some photos of Loth with just the varnish.  Sadly I do not and that is an oversight I made.  It’s too bad because it would of shown the difference between a dipped model and then going a few steps further and doing actual highlights.  The varnish is great for keeping the base paint on the model.  I find that paint rubs off easy from Forgeworld models (especially black), however, the varnish is a great seal.

Adepta Sororitas – Dominions Squad A

I’ll take a short break from Carcharodons and showcase some more Adepta Sororitas.  This week it will be Dominions.  Back in the days of the Witch Hunter codex the Seraphim were the bee’s knees for fast attack.  With the flexibility of faith points back then they were a great swiss army knife.  Now the Dominions are my first choice for fast attack.

Kaaltok Campaign Battle Report 001 – 750 Points Tau vs Tyranids

Darrell from GW West Edmonton has organized an escalation campaign.  The first game starts at 750 points and will progress from there for a total of six games.  Before each game we will have to submit our list to Darrell and he will randomly draw our opponents.  Nine people signed up for the campaign.

Cities of Death- Completed Sanctum Imperialis

Here is the completed Sanctum Imperialis project.  The nice thing with terrain is it doesn’t take too long to complete.  Drybrushing speeds the time tremendously.  I paid some attention to detail and added highlights but nothing as detailed as my toy soldiers.

Space Marines Carcharodons- Sevrin Loth WIP

Sevrin Loth.  Well done Forgeworld.  What a great sculpt.  This was the model and the Honour Guard that accompanied that motivated me to start a Space Marine chapter.  After much research and thought I settled on the Carcharodons.  If you are a painter then get this model.  If you are going to start a Space Marine chapter then get this model.

Jerrod and I haven’t played each other for a couple of months so we were due for a game.  I requested to play against Jerrod’s Necrons with the list I used for the Out Of The Basement event.  Jerrod’s list is tough as I found out with my Sisters.  He dishes out a lot of firepower and those blasted robots keep getting back up for more punishment.

Space Marines Carcharodons- Tactical Marines Squad C

For now this is Squad C.  I haven’t come up with any names for any of my Sergeants yet.  If you have any suggestions befitting the Carcharodons drop it in the comments.  This squad has been sitting on the projects list for a long time.  I had quite a few Carcharodons base coated and dipped prior to getting back in business here at the Roost.  This squad has been waiting patiently for two plus years to be completed.  Since I started painting them prior to blogging there will not be too many pictures of the progress.

Cities of Death- Sanctum Imperialis WIP

I needed a break from grey power armour.  I have a bunch of Cities of Death buildings assembled so it’s about time I start to paint some up.  Miniwargaming was selling their Army Painter product for really cheap so I stocked up on primer and used it on the scenery.  This was just the break I needed.

Space Marine Carcharodons- MkIV Captain

Here is the final result for my MkIV Captain.  I am pleased with the final result, especially with the skin.  The skin has the pale grey complexion and is not lost in grey of the armour.

Space Marine Carcharodons- MkIV Captain WIP Feb. 04

I’ve had a bit of time off work due to a broken rib so I have had a lot of time to paint models.  It’s time to get all caught up on the Roost.  The first WIP for the MkIV Captain showed the model with all the base colours painted on.  Here’s the next stage in the development.

After a long hiatus from 40K my friend James has returned.  James used to play Eldar in fourth edition before selling his models.  James has the itch to play again and has started a Space Wolves army.  Just like me he loves Terminators and has a large contingent of elite battle brothers.  Here is a game we recently played with my Adepta Sororitas squaring off against the Sons of Russ.

Nemesis Painting Challenge Month 1

This is the third year that Games Workshop is running the Nemesis Painting Challenge.  Each participant is required to have an X amount of points painted with a secondary goal that will usually include a specific type of model.  Month one only has one objective and that is paint 500 points.  This painting challenge is a great idea.  This is not a painting contest.  It is a motivating tool to help gamer’s paint a 1850 point army in six months.  I participated in the first two challenges and it helped me stay focused on Carcharodons and Grey Knights.  For the third installment I will be contributing more Carcharodons.

Space Marine Carcharodons- Red Brethren Terminators Part 2

Here is the completed product of my second combat squad of Red Brethren.  This post has all of the highlights and the addition of red to the top of the armour.  The red is subtle but is enough in my opinion to classify them as the Red Brethren.  I now have a ten man squad of lightning claw Assault Terminators to wreak havoc with Tyberos.  All I have to do now is practice my 5+ invulnerable saves because I am failing dramatically in that department.

Lets start wrapping up some projects on the Roost.  This is the second batch of Red Brethren Terminators.  The Red Brethren are a bodyguard of sorts for Tyberos.  All models must be equipped with lightning claws.  I have five painted already.  This is the second combat squad.

January 2016 Out Of The Basement Army Showcase

Part of the excitement of attending a tournament is looking at the armies.  There are a lot of fantastic painters out there and an event draws them out.  On Saturday everyone had their armies out on display before the games began.  I admired but unfortunately did so without the camera.  I had to play catch-up for the rest of the weekend.  Some armies were left on display between games and others I had to take pictures of during a game.  Sadly I was not able to take pictures of everyone’s work.  I also forgot to take a picture of my army on display so I took a picture of my list at home.

January 2016 Out Of The Basement Day 1

Out Of The Basement is a local Edmonton gaming group that has been operating for years now.  I’ve been playing 40K for twelve years and I am certain they were around before I started.  They run two events a year- one in January and one in July.  Gamer’s from all across Alberta flock to these events to play 40K, Fantasy, Malifaux, X-Wing, Warmachine, etc.  I’ve been to one OOTB event and that was years ago.  I wanted to see if my Carcharodons could stand up against the other best painted models.  Oh yeah, I was able to play some games too.  Let’s see how I fared.

Space Marine Carcharodons- MkIV Captain WIP

The dust has settled from the Out of the Basement tournament.  I’ll have some battle reports and photos from the weekend up eventually.  I have to get a card reader to transfer the photos onto the computer.  The Mk IV Captain made an appearance at the tournament so I will start the WIP posts to show the progress of the model.
