I showed up for a random game and Darrell and I drew the short straw. Darrell is a tough player to play against. He has a talent of designing some challenging lists to play against. I have been on the receiving end of a Darrell beat down a few times. Will the Tyranids prevail and add some space clowns to the DNA? Will the Harlequins laugh the whole way to the bank? Read more to find out.

Adepta Sororitas – Chapter Approved Megasaur
I used to have a fair number of White Dwarf magazines. About a year ago I did a considerable downsize to minimize the contents in the house. There are a select few magazines that I could not send to the recycle bin and such as #291 from April 2004. This was released at the tail end of third edition and has some great Chapter Approved rules. One of those is the Megasaur.
Space Marines Carcharodons- Space Hulk Librarian
“Whatcha gonna do when Hulkamania destroys you?” -Hulk Hogan
The Space Hulk Librarian is complete and ready to do some epic leg drops on the enemies of the Imperium.

Badab War YEG- Darrell’s Raptors WIP
Darrell signed on to represent the Raptors for the Badab War YEG campaign I am organizing. Darrell is starting from scratch and I am looking forward to seeing the progress of his army. I only have one picture to show so far.

Thanks for the picture Darrell. I hope this is the first of many. I’ve asked the other participants to send me photos of their WIP and/or completed models. I hope to be able to showcase more Badab War YEG armies in the near future.

Space Marines Carcharodons- Assault Terminators Part 2
Here’s another project that has been overdue for a while. I completed five Assault Terminators with thunderhammers and storm shields a couple of years ago. I was also working on five more for the squad at the time (four with lightning claws and one with a thunderhammer and storm shield) but turned my attention elsewhere. Now that the Caestus Assault Ram is assembled it sure will be nice to roll out ten terminators from that transport.

Cities of Death WIP
It takes me a long time to get motivated to assemble kits. Like I said in my last post kit assembly is my least favourite part of the hobby. Around a year ago I had some help assembling some of my Cities of Death buildings. Badab War YEG is slowly getting closer and it’s time I finish of the rest of my unassembled terrain.

Adepta Sororitas- Crusaders
The wonderful thing about 40K is there are a lot of different avenues to enjoy the hobby. One can collect, sculpt, kit bash, write, paint, photography and, oh yeah, we can play games. It’s a rich hobby that encompasses a lot of various talents. I enjoy the painting and playing (not to mention writing). I do not enjoy the model assembly too much. I’m glad it’s the first step and get it over and done with. Some hobbyists see a great opportunity to kit bash the Crusader model. GW releases two models and I am more than happy to paint those two than kit bash my own. I realize it looks a wee bit dull on the table top.
40K Blog Showcase 1
The Roost is coming up to a year in 40K blogging and it’s time to start showcasing some other sites. Word of mouth is a great way to get to know new sites. I hope you enjoy these sites. I know I do.

Space Marines Carcharodons- Space Hulk Librarian WIP
One more Librarian gives me enough models to complete the conclave. Time to enter the Space Hulk.

Kaaltok Campaign Battle Report 002- 1000 Points Tyranids vs Chaos Space Marines
The planet Kaaltok hangs alone with a dim star it’s only company in the Eastern Fringe, on the edge of Tau space. Isolated by strange grav-metric phenomenon it remained untouched for untold millennia until without warning the grav storms ceased and the planet was left open to the rest of the cosmos. Soon several powers began to make planet fall on the barren wastes, each with it’s own agenda. The blood of many will soon soak the ground of this isolated place, and each faction demanding a penance in blood for those that challenge their claim to this forgotten place.

Nemesis Painting Challenge- Adeptus Mechanicus
I have some bad news and some good news. First the bad news. The GW West Edmonton Nemesis Painting Challenge has been cancelled. I am not going to lie, I am disappointed. It’s no fault to staff at the store. This is the third year Nik has organized the challenge and has made alterations to make it easier for participants. The challenge is a six month challenge to paint an 1950 point army. Participants are require to paint a set amount of points every month.

Kaaltok Campaign- Hive Fleet Kodiak
Not too long ago I posted a battle report with a narrative twist to it. Darrell at GW West Edmonton has organized this campaign and I have been bugging him about creating the origins of the planet and some background to why the factions have come together. Darrell has obliged to my request (maybe just to shut me up) and has written a paragraph to why our armies have met up. Thanks Darrell.
I thought it would add more to the experience for all participants if there was an added narrative or cinematic expression to the campaign. I’ve extended an invitation to the others to write battle reports that can be posted here at the Roost as well as come up with some background as to why their faction is involved. So far I haven’t received any background or battle reports but fingers crossed. I’m not involved in the other games so it’s a good way to connect the participants.

Kickstarter- Black Site X and Rapid Vanguard Terrain by Death Ray Designs
My search for Zone Mortalis is now complete. I was going to purchase the official Zone Mortalis from Forgeworld. That plan has now changed. A few days back I was going through my Battle Brothers links. I cannot remember the site I was on at the time. I scrolled through the sites blogroll and saw a link to Death Ray Designs Kickstarter. Naturally I was curious and have much thought I have decided to take the plunge.

This will be my first foray into MDF terrain. The walls are what sold me. It is fully funded and as of this posting there is still 14 hours left to go. If you are interested check out the link from above. I will be featuring this terrain in the upcoming Badab War YEG campaign.

Adepta Sororitas – Repentia
During the Witch Hunter days Repentia were terrible. I had no aspiration to buy any. I preferred the randomness of the Arco-Flagellents at the time. Then the White Dwarf codex was released and things changed. Arco’s lost all their random flavour and Repentia received an Act of faith that was super fluffy. They also got a points reduction. I knew someone who had a bunch and he was ready to sell. I opened up my wallet and bought two squads.

Space Marines Carcharodons – Assault Marines
A while back I started a WIP thread for Assault Marines. It is time to consider the project officially complete. Sadly I forgot to take photos of the in-between stages. At least I have the end product pictures.

The Badab War YEG (Update March 10)
The Badab War is the largest Space Marine civil war since the Horus Heresy. The Astral Claws were the primary chapter to patrol and maintain order in the Maelstrom Zone along with the assistance of the Lamenters and Mantis Warriors. Over time the Maelstrom Warders became disenfranchised with Terra and sought more independent control of the Maelstrom Zone. Motivated by greed, other factions saw a chance to strike and through a series of events the Astral Claws came under the scrutiny of Terra. The Red Scorpions then led a contingent to bring the Warders back in line. Secrets were revealed and treachery struck and the Maelstrom Zone spiraled into bloody conflict that involved seventeen Space Marine chapters in total.

Space Marines Carcharodons- Caestus Assault Ram Assembly
The day I assembled the Caestus Assault Ram has finally arrived. I’ve been putting this project off for months for a couple of reasons. First of all I wanted to get a lot of boots on the ground so I focused a lot of my time and energy on infantry models. The second reason- this model looks intimidating to assemble. If you have worked with Forgeworld then you know the assembly is a lot like trying your luck at a casino. If the cast is good you win. If the cast is bad, well you’re in for a frustrating night.

Adepta Sororitas – Hobo With A Shotgun
Here’s another model showcasing my Adepta Sororitas army. It’s Uriah Jacobus, aka Hobo with a Shotgun. Uriah’s rules got toned down a bit with the latest codex but he’s still worth taking in games. His leadership is considerably better than a regular Priest and can unlock some sweet abilities from his War Hymns special rule.
Space Marines Carcharodons- Sevrin Loth
Loth is all done now. I have added highlights from the last update. I’ll have to come up with a new name because there is no way Loth would be accepted amongst the Carcharodons. His skin is not pale enough.

Roost 40K Written Battle Report 017 – 1500 points Tyranids vs Space Wolves
James and I have played a few games lately and he is starting to get a handle on 40K. NOw that his feet are wet I asked him if he wanted to go through the Tyranid Altar of War missions. This batrep we are using the first Tyranid mission from Altar of War. Off the top of my head I think the mission is called Vanguard Infestation.
