I plugged away at a building and the Skyshield Bastion the other might. The Skyshield was a bit of work. I filed down the areas where the landing pad would be resting on the bastion. It took a lot of work and I wondered why I tortured myself. Now that it is done I am glad I did. The building I am very proud of. I saw a picture in the 6th edition rule book and was inspired to reproduce it. I used movement tray cut to size for the upper levels. I plan on sticking some magnets inside so if I want the terrain to block line of site (i.e. no peeking through the windows) then I can stick some paper between the magnets.

Roost 40K Written Battle Report 002 – 1250 Points Grey Knights and Assassins vs Chaos
This will be a quick written battle report. I dropped in to the local for a game and didn’t have much time to document with a camera. I’ve played two games now with the written Assassins rules allied in with the Grey Knights. I played with the Assassins a lot with the Witch Hunters codex. With the changes to Sisters of Battle those models were sadly collecting dust. I was really excited to get the Assassins release in White Dwarf since I do not play with any electronic material. Have you played with the Assassins yet? Let me know how you have fared. Read More…

Space Marines Carcharodons- Tyberos the Red Wake
Tyberos caught my attention when Forgeworld released the model. I thoroughly enjoyed painting the model. I like the mystery behind the chapter as well as with Tyberos. I used the tech outpost base by Fantascape with all the Carcharodons. It’s a base, I think, that suits the chapter.

Grey Knights – Apothecary
I’ll be working on a battle report for a 1850 points game of Grey Knights vs Khorne Daemonkin. I had a blast playing Jerrod. The Apothecary made an appearance that game and forgot to pack his med kit that game. I didn’t make a single Feel No Pain roll, however, he wasn’t really needed. The Paladins rolled over the Flesh Hounds and Blood Letters.

Grey Knights: Librarian
Here’s the Librarian I painted for the Games Workshop West Edmonton painting challenge. This model part of the first months challenge so I got a few games in with him. That means a few perils of the warp moments too. On the subject of perils my games with Grey Knights have been interesting. I either do not suffer a single perils all game or suffer at least one perils per turn. Makes for some interesting moments.

Space Marines Carcharodons- Chapter Champion
Forgeworld makes some fantastic models. I owe it to the Sevrin Loth and Red Scorpion Honour Guard for breaking down my stubbornness to never play with Space Marines. I had a lot of fun working on the Chapter Champion. I did some modifications to the head. I loved the scorpion tail and claws but it somehow didn’t fit the shark theme. I used green stuff to convert the tail to a dorsal fin and filled in the claws for shark heads. Voila, a champion worthy to be a Carcharodon.

Roost 40K Video Battle Report 001- Grey Knight vs Harlequins 1500 Points
Here’s my first recorded battle report. Nik and I duked it out with 1500 points. I played grey Knights versus Nik’s Killer Klowns From Outer Space (aka Harlequin’s). It was a fun match and we want to have the two lists square up against each other again. Thanks to Nik for his patience with the filming. It delayed the game a bit and Nik was a good sport about it. On another note I played a 1250 point game Grey Knights and Assassins vs Tau. I haven’t played with Assassins for a long time and it sure was fun to pull those models out again. Mackenzie, the Tau player, has some more models to hate along with my Dreadknight. Sadly, no report for that game.

Grey Knights – Terminators Squad B
Squad A is composed of pewter models. Squad B is all plastic. So far I only have 8 painted up.

Cities of Death WIP
Matt and Jerrod helped me get started on my Cities of Death buildings a couple of weekends ago. We were distracted very easily and often and that’s alright because it was a good night had by all (or so they tell me). This first picture is what the three of us were able to accomplish the first night.

Space Marines Carcharodons- Sharknado Chapter Banner
Grey Knights – Dreadknight
I originally wanted to post photos of the Cities of Death assembly from Sunday but I have had a last minute change to those plans. Instead, here’s the Nemesis Dreadknight I painted for the 2000 point Nemesis painting challenge. You will see that the sword is a wee bit crooked. It snapped off in my case so I pinned it and glued it back together. Then it snapped again. I no longer transport the Dreadknight in my case. One of these I will buy of of those new GW transport cases. I will also have to buy a new Nemesis greatsword bit and do some surgery. In the meantime here’s the big fella.

Space Marines Carcharodons- Honour Guard
When I first started getting into Warhammer 40K I was stubborn that I would never play Space Marines. At the local group Grey Knights were not considered Space Marines, contrary to the fact that they are. I’ve stopped kidding myself with that lie. Then Forgeworld released the Badab War and my stubbornness was melted away.

Grey Knights- Brother Captain Stern
Nights off are coming up. I had some help arriving to assemble scenery on Sunday but it looks like that will be postponed. My first Games and Gears kickstarter board should be arriving by the 15th, hence the reason to get the scenery assembled. I think I will work a bit on Tim the Dimachaeron and play some Final Fantasy IV for my nights off. In the meantime here is Brother Captain Stern of the Grey Knights.

Tyranids – Dimachaeron WIP
What manner of man are you that can summon fire without flint or tinder?
I… am an enchanter.
By what name are you known?
There are some who call me… Tim.
I have had a tough time pronouncing Dimachaeron. I was having a problem with the pronounciation and Nik said, “There are some who call me…Tim.”
“Hey, I can pronounce Tim,” and it stuck. If you haven’t seen Monty Python and the Holy Grail then do so. It is a fantastic movie and the source of how Tim the Dimachareon came to be.

Project Grey Knights – Strike Squad
Well, I was hoping to post these sooner but a wee bit busy. One player in my local nicknamed the Thunderhammer bearer “MC Hammer”. I plan on painting MC on a shoulder pad one day. I hope you enjoy.

Grey Knights- Terminators Squad A
I play Warhammer 40,000. I take flak for it. Yes, there are some in this particular hobby that are not known for their social prowess and hygiene. I love games be it contact, board, cards the list goes on. I work shift work so I invest my time off during night rotation with painting. Project Grey Knights has been ongoing for the last few months now and I am pleased with the work. I want to show you what I have finished.

It’s Time To Take Roost Again
I’ve let the cobwebs take over the roost. When I was traveling with Mrs. Turkadactyl the motivation to post was easy. Coming back home it was tough to try present my daily events as interesting. For a while now I have wanted to post my hobby musings- Warhammer 40,000 aka 40K, cycling and backcountry hiking.
The Roost is now occuppied again.

Moustache Forefathers
Dear Mark,
I think I have died and gone to moustache heaven. No, don’t worry. I am still around and have not been flushed down the sink because of a razor accident. I am very much in bloom on Alexander’s face. I was able to see a special treat. There is a movie called Gettysburg and if you want to see some quality moustaches then look no further. Be sure to check this out as well as the pictures of the Gettysburg officers here. Wow, I am tremendously humbled as well as in awe to the power these moustaches command. You want sexy? Oh yeah, it is there. You want rugged? Look no further. Gettysburg has it all. Where did we go wrong? The days of powerful moustaches are gone. Mark, we must bring back the power of the moustache. We must think of a plan to bring back the moustache to its former glory days. Based on my experience of travelling in Austria I think we will have allies in the Austrians.
Hugs and kisses,
Moustache

Grace
Back in September I announced the new addtion, Grace, to Drew and Melissa’s family. Spending time with Grace has been a pleasure since we have returned. The Teal’s popped by for a visit last Friday and Grace was a wee bit happy. She was giggling steadily for half an hour and thankfully I was able to get the camera out in time to catch the last bit of giggles she had. Grace is a cutey. Here is the bundle of joy that Mrs. Turkadactyl and I looked forward to meeting when we returned from Europe.

Tales From The Rabbit Hole- The Biography of Snuggles
For those of you who have been regular visitors of the Roost you are already well familiar with my travel bunny Snuggles. Snuggles came to me as a gift from Mrs. Turkadactyl when we were still dating. She was inspired from a story I told her involving my friend Bill. You see Bill has a group of friends that get together around Christmas and do a gift exchange. I know this kind of gift exchange as the Texas gift swap. The Texas gift swap involves everyone picking a number and whoever has number one can pick a gift from the pile of presents and unwrap it. Then person with number two can either pick the gift person number one chose or pick an unwrapped present in the middle.
