I don’t have a Necron army but I needed a model of Trazyn the Infinite for my Inner Circle display. There’s bonus points awarded to a themed Inner Circle display and I wanted to use the Triumvirate of the Imperium (Belisarius Cawl, Saint Celestine, Inquisitor Greyfax). I wanted to use the scene where Trazyn releases the captives heroes from his pokeball. I had all the models I needed; except one, Trazyn.

I think I am getting somewhere with the Kastelen Robot now. If you’ve been following my Inner Circle progress then you know that the Kastelen Robot has been a problem child. It was the first Mechanicus model I painted so I was figuring out my colour template. Then there seemed to be too much yellow and then too much black. I started from ground zero again.

Were you one of the fortunate souls to get your hands on Canoness Veridyan a few months back? I can say with glee that I was. What a great sculpt from some classic John Blanche art. As a longtime Sisters player I was ecstatic to hear about this release. After I picked her up I tucked the model off to the side since my attention was completely focused on Sylvaneth. I was reviewing my Inner Circle list and it dawned on me that I should add Canoness Veridyan.

This is the last game for Phase IV for Badab War YEG featuring Andrew and his Astral Claws versus Jerrod’s Astral Claws. The winner of this game will decide which faction wins the phase and gain an extra strategem for the Phase V grand finale. Andrew and Jerrod have never played a Zone Mortalis game before so let’s see what surprises await them.

I have mixed feelings on the new Saint Celestine. The model looks fantastic but why is it perched on two fragile scrolls? I can’t see this model leaving my house two often based on how delicate the model is. It looks great but I don’t want to take any chances of wrecking it during transport. Okay, with the rant complete now let’s move onto showcasing the Saint.

I have to say the Kastelen Robot has been one of the most difficult models I have had to paint. I decided to break up the yellow a bit more and painted the shoulder and thigh pads black.

Now that I have some Mechanicus units painted for Inner Circle it’s time to focus on the characters. For me it was a no brainer to paint up a scene from Fall of Cadia. I bought the Triumvirate of the Imperium and Adeptus Mechanicus models. I have loads of Sisters I can throw in to the mix as well. My display will not work if the Triumvirate is not complete though. I decided to start with the appetizer- Inquisitor Greyfax.

I’ve really enjoyed painting the Electro-Priests. They’ve been more time-consuming than I anticipated but that’s okay. These are some of the coolest models I’ve painted. I’ve made some more progress so why not show it off.

This is the second game for Phase IV for the Badab War YEG. All Phase IV matches will be played with the Zone Mortalis rules. Last game featured a bloody affair between the Minotaurs and Lamenters. That game resulted in a draw. How will this match play out? Both Space Marine chapters enjoy assault. Let’s see how high-five’s they give each other.

The WIP factory keeps on pumping out models. The next batch is the Corpuscarii and Fulgurite Electro-Priests. These models are similar so I decided to work on them together with the assembly line process. These models are some of my favourites for the Mechanicus line. They look intimidating and are quite unique looking in the 40K line of models.

The Badab War YEG has moved into Phase IV and that means Zone Mortalis. This is my first foray into Zone Mortalis and it is bloody. I followed Thomas’ advice and stuck to 1000 point games. The game starts off with a lot of movement and quickly degrades into a slaughter. Badab War YEG has been a bloody affair so far and Phase IV did not disappoint. This match is a follow-up from Phase III with the Minotaurs simultaneously assaulting the Lamenters planetside and boarding one of their cruisers. The Minotaurs will assumed the role of attacker and the Lamenters are the defenders.

I thought I’d combine the Skitarii Ruststalkers and Infiltrators into one post since the models are very similar to one another. I decided to work on these two units together to make use of the assembly line process. I’m adding these to my Inner Circle project based from the Fall of Cadia.

I took a weekend excursion to Seattle to watch Radiohead and I am still recovering from the weekend. Radiohead has been at the top of my list for live shows for years and it finally became a reality. Wow, what a great show.
Well, the show must go on and that means more WIP shots for Inner Circle. In case you haven’t heard about Inner Circle it is a 40K painting contest that closes on May 13. Participants can enter up to 18 units/characters and are given bonus points for a theme. I have chosen to paint units seen in Fall of Cadia when Belsarius Cawl is working on the Cadian Pylon. Todays installment is Storm Troopers of the Inquisition.

I’ve included three Kataphron Destroyers in my Inner Circle list. I’ll have to admit they have been taking a bit longer to paint than what I expected. Thankfully I had Leadbelcher spray in my arsenal and it has sped the process up a little bit. I painted one model up first as a template for the rest. Once I figured out what parts to paint with yellow, black and purple the rest should fall into line a lot faster.

The Kastelen Robot was my test subject for paint colours. After painting Drycha I wanted to explore working with Averland Sunset some more. Yellow can be a challenging colour so why not give it a go. I also enjoyed Thor’s posts at Creative Twilight on his Blood Bowl team. Thor used Thunderhawk Blue so I figured I’d give it a shot with Averland Sunset. So come on down….

My apologies for the delay in Badab War YEG battle reports. Dave was the scribe for today’s battle report and was away for a bit. I’ve done some editing to clean it up. This battle report is the special mission for Phase III, which means the winner will receive three command points for their team. It is also the third and final match for the phase. Andrew will be commander of the Star Phantoms against Dave and his Executioners.

There is six weeks left for Inner Circle and I am feeling the pinch. I had a lot of models to assemble and with that out-of-the-way it’s painting time. I’m going to be hard pressed to finish my list so some substitutes will have to happen. I have loads of completed Sisters to fill the gaps if necessary. They will have to be re-based but that’s the price I’ll have to pay for starting late.
