Camas Top Ten List

In spirit of David letterman’s Top ten lists here is todays top ten list:

The top ten reasons you know you have grown accustomed to life at Camas;

  1. When you are done you kick the door of every fridge shut.
  2. You sing “knife” when washing a sharp knife.
  3. Saturday afternoon lunch is a fry up including baked beans and bacon.
  4. Unnatural light burns the eyes.
  5. Everywhere is too hot.
  6. You miss stepping on sheep poo, especially when you realize you stepped on dog poo.
  7. A shopping cart is a foreign piece of equipment.  Now where did I put my wheelbarrow?
  8. Trendy people do not wear waterproofs.
  9. Nature is just outside the front door, not a half hour walk away.
  10. Playing hit the pole and you realize you just threw a rock at a lamp pole.  Are those sirens I hear?

If anyone has anything to add please be my guest.

The Breaking Of The Fellowship

We are now at my grandparents.  Yesterday was a bittersweet day.  It is good to see my grandparents but it was sad to say farewell to people who I lived with for the previous fourteen weeks.  Dot, Tim, Amy and Emily said farewell to all the volunteers.  The six of us then boarded a train from Oban and said our farewells to each other at Glasgow.  The fellowship was broken.  The train ride was tough.  For fourteen weeks I have been breathing in clean air, have had the freedom to roam, and have not been exposed to massive amounts of flourescent lighting.  The six of us, Josef, Sarah, Andrea, Kate, Mrs. Turkdactyl and I all felt sick on the train ride.  None were to pleased with the musky air quality.  We have been spoiled drinking in the frsh air of Camas.

This Is The End Beautiful Friend

Good form.  This  our last night.  Tomorrow we head up the end of the track and instead of doing the ice cream dance as the group boards the bus we shall be the recipients of the farewell ice cream dance.  It has been fourteen weeks since Mrs. Turkadactyl and I have come to the shores of Camas.  A lot has happened since then  Drew and Melissa have a new addition to their family.  Mike and Natalie, too, have a new addition to their family.  I think Camas has been good for our marriage.  It has been good for the both of us to grow as individuals.

Final Spin With Ferocious

A while back I mentioned that I had some surprise plans with my cardboard car the Camas Dactyl (affectionately known as Ferocious).  All Camas Dactyl videos are uploaded onto Turkavision.  Below are some stills of my adventures with Ferocious.

The Moustache Letters- Evolution Of A Moustache

Dear Mark,

I hope all is well with you.  Hopefully the Paydro Gang has not stolen you away to work in their earwax factory.  I am looking forward to the cool air.   Alexander will require a bodyguard to watch over his sensitive skin over his top lip.  I am just the Moustache for the job.  We will be in Italy soon.  I hear there are some legendary moustache’s there.  I look forward to being in the presence of some mighty moustache’s.  Please write and let me know how things are going and I hope to report to you of some mighty moustache’s in my travels.  Until then I present to you my growing up pictures:

Congratulations To The Boldts

Natalie gave birth to a healthy 9lb and 20 inches baby girl on Tursday October 16.  Congratulations Mike and Natalie!  Mrs. Turkadactyl have two new people to meet when we return home.  We are looking forward to meeting Naomi Layna Boldt.

I am battling the flu right now.  Mrs. Turkadactyl was sick last week.  It is now my turn.  I guess it was inevitable given our long work days and close living quarters.  Better now then when vacation time starts.  We are expecting a big storm tommorrow.  Sadly the wind is coming from the south.  If it was from the north I could play on the island by leaning into the wind.  More to come another day.

Jam Tart Boy Presents Stories For The Bathtub

I present a special treat for my four fans.  That’s right, the fan base has increased by one.  Woo hoo, go team.  After many pain staking hours (my bum is numb with all the sitting) of uploading footage I give to you Jam Tart Boy Presents Stories for The Bathtub.  I hope this is the first of many compilations that Tom and I will put together.

This compilation of short stories was born out of Tom and I goofing around and telling each other short stories.  We then decided to write a book and get rich off of it.  Tell all your friends.  I am taking advance orders now.  Now to get an internet shopping cart, Jam Tart Boy official website, merchadise…

Happy Thanksgiving With A Dash Of Election

Election day Canada.  Get out an vote.

Mrs. Turkadactyl and I made it to our day off.  Now I get to relax and upload some photos and videos.  this week is going well. The group is from outside Glasgow with the ages ranging from 10-13.  The girls are loving Mrs. T and I have been bonding well with a couple of the boys.  Ian is a big fan of random humour.  Hmmm, that sounds like someone I know.  Tyson, Ian is one step ahead of us with animal creations.  Not only does he merge animals together but he also adds other miscellaneous items.  For example, I combined a crab with Godzilla and the letter P.  Good times.

A Wee Bit Of Rain

I am presently typing away at Iona.  This will be our last Friday sleepover on Iona.  Next Friday is the Camas farewell party so we will not be staying at Iona next week.  Another sign that our time at Camas is coming to a close.  We now have two weeks left.

Storytellers

It has been a while since my last post.  I wish I had lots to write but I do not.  Last weeks group was another adult group.  The theme of the week was storytelling.  As the theme suggest there was a lot of storytelling.  It was a week that I myself felt disconnected from the guests.  They went on a few outings and I was not part of most of the outings.  We were introduced to the upcoming winter weather last week.  We felt the presence of the north wind for most of the week.  The way Camas Bay is positioned we are sheltered from most wind directions except north.

The 2008 Camas Dactyl

I am not too sure what is going on with myself.  I have been very tired over the last couple of weeks.  My energy levels have been low.  Perhaps it is the business of the previous eight weeks that are catching up to me.  I thank Doug for the ice hockey conversations we had last week.  I really needed to talk to someone in person about hockey.  I had a treat at Iona on Friday.  I was playing red light green light with one of the sheep.  The sheep then did something sheep are not known to do; it approached me.  I was petting it for a bit and it started to wag its’ tail like a dog does.  This sheep was really enjoying the attention.  It also put its’ head in my lap a couple of times.  I decided to name this one Poochy.  Views on the roost have dropped quite dramatically over the last couple of weeks.  So a treat for my three loyal fans that are sticking around- more cardboard car.

Name the Cardboard Car Winners

A big thanks to my Camas colleagues in naming my cardboard car.  Dot is the winner of the model name and Amy is the winner of the nickname.  My car is the 2008 Camas Dactyl, whose nickname is “Ferocious”.  Rarr!  The sheep have been scarce this week.  Unfortunately no footage, yet, with Ferocious wreaking havoc amongst the Camas sheep.  I have some more exciting plans with Ferocious but I will let those be a surprise.

The Moustache Letters- Hockey Night With Moustache

Dear Mark,

It has been a while since I have heard from you.  I hope you have not been attacked by hair plugs.  I hear they grow jealous by the bushy ‘stache and their land dwelling allies.  The nights are getting colder here and I am happy to report that I am keeping upper lip warm.  Ice hockey is almost upon us.  I want to take the time to pay homage to the top ten moustaches in the National Hockey League.

Name the Cardboard Car Contest

I know that there has not been much interest in the contests I have had going here at the Roost.  There wasn’t much cry for support to keep the contests going when I said I was going to stop.  I am giving the Camas Contests another chance.

Cardboard Car- Project Complete

Now that the car has been painted I have to take care of the finer details.  It requires wheels to move, lights to shine when it gets dark.  What other treats have I put on my car?

Mentos and Diet Coke Ferry

After two months of talking about firing a mentos and diet coke ferry Adam, Josef and I finally launched our creation.  Of course, I use the word launch very liberally.  Not much happened in fact.  One thing for sure is that the three of us are not good with mentos and diet coke rockets.  We brought the creation up to the jetty at Iona.  It was ready to go cruising across the water.  We threw a rock at the cap and instead of knocking the cap off the ferry fell over the edge and did absolutely nothing.  It was disappointing to say the least.  It was a lot of fun, though, dreaming about the ferry launching across the water.  I leave you with some photos.  It is best that I do not upload any video onto Turkavision because well, there is not much to see.

Pardon Me

I was saying a lot of, “pardon me” last week.  The whirlwind known as Abercorn has left and Camas is now a quiet place.  The kids last week have a thick Glasgow accent and it was very tough to understand them.  They were a lot of fun and it was great seeing them thrive in the Camas environment.

Tribute To Mr. Camas

We had  sad day at Camas yesterday.  We said farewell to our beloved Mr. Camas, Adam.  Adam has been a volunteer at Camas since April.  After five months of service at Camas, Adam has left to go back to University.  Adam will be missed.  I appreciated having Adam around.  We shared the same sense of silly humour.  I think Camas is at a loss with Adam leaving.  Adam, thank you for your friendship these past nine weeks.

Congratulations To The Teals!

Melissa Teal gave birth to a healthy 9lb 11oz baby girl yesterday. Mrs. Turkadactyl just spoke to Melissa about 45 minutes ago from this writing.   Congratulations Drew and Melissa!!  Mrs. Turkadactyl and I are excited to meet Grace in December (as well as a renovated home).  Drew, I will aid you in your quest to train Grace in never voting NDP.
