Cult Mechanicus- Datasmith

Poor Datasmith.  His Kastelen Robots have been stealing all the limelight lately.  Move over big dogs a mean old dog is movin’ in.

Datasmith WIP 1

Today’s post will be a quick update on my Inner Circle progress.  This is all the base colours down and washed.  I got a start on the robe painted two coats of Averland Sunset over top of XV-88.  I didn’t like the black power fist and painted the fingers with Leadbelcher.  It made a world of difference.  I’ve found out through trial and error that black with green highlights works with the yellow, however, in moderation.

The goods news is I have finally figured out what to do with the Kastelen Robots.  This fellow will be on my board for Inner Circle.

You can also see the progress on the base.  It was based with a think cork and hobby sand.  Martian Ironearth was applied over the sand and Martian Ironcrust was applied over the cork.  Next will the base will be washed and drybrushed.  The finished product will appear on Saturday at Inner Circle.

Thanks for reading.

  1. Do you work man? Haha. Your output surpasses mine and I thought I was pretty consistent. Well done mate. Looks awesome. The yellow has really grown on me 😉

    • Yeah. The posts are following a few days later from the painting. I don;t have a conventional work schedule. I work four on four off with 12 hour shifts. My days off lately have been filled with painting. I’ve also been painting before and after work too. Every bit of time counts.

Friday night will be a late night. Finishing touches on Techpriest and Sisters of Battle. Bases and display board have to be drybrushed, which is easy. Have to add some Cadia bits to the bases too. That will score conversion points.

I’m starting to burn out from painting. I’ve noticed it on the Sisters. I’m looking forward to the break. My painting output slows down a lot with the summer. Winter is great for painting with the cold weather. I have to take advantage of being outdoors in the summer since it is short.

      • My wife has the same shifts. I can’t paint for too long straight. Breaks are definitely good and usually filled with converting etc.

  2. Nice. I never would have thought of using green to highlight yellow. Good to take a break from anything if you find feelings of burn out coming up.

    • I took the advice from a couple of friend’s when I was trying to figure out a secondary colour to the yellow. They are both big fans of the colour wheel. One had experience with Dark Eldar and for him his suggestion was immediate- black with green highlights. I haven’t regretted the decision. I have to go back to my Destroyers and clean up their highlights. The highlights are too think and that doesn’t work with the colours selected.

      • I’m going to have to get one of those color wheel thingies!
