Happy belated Canada Day. I was camping the previous four days and enjoyed Canada Day in the Canadian Rockies. Happy Independence Day to my neighbours in the south. In honour of our nation’s birthdays I present to you Hector Rex, Inquisitor Lord of the Daemonhunters
I painted Hector Rex as an ally for my Grey Knights for the Games Workshop West Edmonton Nemesis painting challenge. the painting challenge took six months to complete starting with a 500 point list and progressing to 2000 points. Month four required participants to add in a fortification or ally. Hector Rex was sitting on my shelf, primed, and with no purpose in life. That has now changed.
I like to deviate from GW’s standard colours. Hector Rex, however, I chose to go with the colour scheme that Forgeworld provided. I haven’t painted too much red in the past so I wanted the challenge. The sculpt is fantastic and I had a blast painting it.
I used the same grey’s that I used for the Carcharodon models. For the gold I used three layers of Burnished Gold and for the highlight I mixed Burnished Gold with Mithril Silver. For the red I started with Scab red, highlighted with Red Gore and added a final highlight of Blood Red. The base is from Fantascape’s Gothic Ruins line. I am a big fan of Fantascape’s resin bases. They are worth checking out. I have a link to the right.
Thanks for reading.
