For my previous Tree Revenants WIP I was in a dilemma. The skin and hair were throwing me off and I needed to make some changes. After some consultation with a few people I purchased some more paint. The new colours may not work but having more paint in the collection is always a good thing, right?
The photo above is from my previous WIP post. I wasn’t satisfied with these models. The skin and hair didn’t feel right. Talk about feeling comfortable in your own skin. These Tree Revenants were not. It was time for a makeover. Here’s a couple of group shot with the models at various stages.
I started all over for the flesh. I painted over my previous work with Celestra Grey. I applied Guilliman Blue glaze afterwards.
Then I painted Ulthuan Grey being mindful to keep the muscle definition and runes.
The grey has a blue tone to it so to break it up I applied a final highlight of Pallid Wych Flesh. It is very subtle with the Ulthuan Grey and helps tie the blue in with the pink cherry blossoms.
I think a combination was found that works for these models. They’ve taken a lot longer to paint than expected. These models don’t fit the Sylvaneth aesthetic like the other models so it’s taken a while to figure out what works. Thank you everyone who put in their two cents worth. I’m feeling good about the progress now.
These models, along with three Kurnoth Hunters with bows, are my contribution to #Squaduary. Rory at Stepping Between Games issued an assemble and painting challenge for the month of February. Assemble a squad and paint it to completion. There has been a good-sized response and it’s not too late to join in. Check out the progress of other participants and if you feel inspired to participate let Rory know. The more the merrier I say.
Thanks for reading.
Aw, this was a really good post. Finding the time and actual effort to make a really good article… but what can I say… I hesitate a whole lot and never seem to get nearly anything done.

Just keeping plugging away. Blog and paint when inspired. If it feels like a chore it won’t be fun and will take any joy you with the hobby away.
