Vacation Time

It’s been a week since Inner Circle and I am still recovering.  I fit in a lot of painting in a short period of time and came short of my goal.  I was aiming for the golden ticket to Dallas and came up short by two points to win the store.  I do have more to say on the event, however, I’m enjoying a long needed vacation and that includes the Roost.

As Inner Circle drew closer and closer my posting frequency increased to correspond with my project.  Maintaining the Roost is a hobby in itself and I do not want to post out of obligation.  As for my result in Inner Circle, yeah I’m disappointed.  There was a lot of work that went into it and I had my hopes up.  I think I know where the shortcomings were and file that in #challengeaccepted.

While I was prepping for Inner Circle there was a big life event that happened.  My wife and I purchased a house four and a half years ago.  Our mortgage is up for renewal in November.  When we bought our house we would re-evaluate at the five-year mark whether to stay or move.

My wife, bless her wisdom, wanted to look at houses.  I agreed with her.  We have an old place and we have seen the strain on many of friends who have taken on renovations.  That is not for us.  We started to look and bought a brand spanking’ new house that we can move into in July.  We sealed the deal last Saturday.

Now my attention is on selling our current place and getting ready to move.  Inner Circle had ended at the right time.  I have a lot more time to dedicate to this major life event.  So yeah, vacation time.  Models will remain unpainted for a while.  I’ll be a little slow for trying out eighth edition.  My posts will be a little sporadic for the next little bit.  Rest assured I am still here and not going anywhere; I’m just taking a hobby vacation.

Here’s what to expect in the near future:

  • Inner Circle wrap-up the challenge will be to not try sound too salty.  Like I said I’m disappointed but I’ll assess the event and try to be as objective as possible.
  • Happy Birthday to the Roost- it’s been three years!
  • Model showcases you saw the Inner Circle WIP posts.  Now meet the finished products.
  • Sylvaneth- what, more Sylvaneth?  These were finished before I started on Inner Circle.  I’ve held back showcasing them to change things up in the summer.  I have an unassembled Alareille to put together as well.
  • Spartember- this is a teaser announcement for now.  A couple of months back NafNaf and I, in a comments section, were talking about our unassembled Spartan Assault Tanks sitting comfortable in a box.  We challenged each other to assemble our tanks sometime in the fall.  September makes sense since October will be the Dreadtober challenge.  Plus we can combine Spartan and September.  What do you say NafNaf?  Spartember?  Who wants to join us?

So that’s it for now.  Thanks for cheering me on for Inner Circle.  I do appreciate the support.  It’s a nice warm day here in Edmonton.  I think I will celebrate with some ice cream, oh, and Alien Covenant is out now.

Thanks for reading.

    • Thanks. We are looking forward to the move. It happened a lot faster than we expected. It took us a year and a half to find our current place. This time the process was about a month. It sure has been a busy time.

  2. Hey dude. Sorry you did not get where you wanted to with the inner circle. I thought your stuff looked really good, and all that work you put in was pretty incredible.

Good luck with the moving. I recently moved and it was quite a stressful time, and my hobby took a back seat for quite a while too. Def good to take a break from hobby and blog, especially with all the work you have been doing over the last few months on it. Hopefully you will come back after everything has settled rejuvenated and fired up for more hobby goodness 🙂

September would work for me, game on Spartan challenge! 🙂

    • I usually slow down come summer time. The nice weather is a good incentive to take a break. I find a break is crucial to stay fresh with the hobby.

Really looking forward to the move. The new place is a substantial upgrade. No regrets with time spent house hunting. We have a busy schedule to get our place ready to sell.

When you want to make Spartember official?

  3. Oh that is a real shame you didn’t place. It must have been some strong competition chief.

A break from the blog for real life is a good plan, moving can be killer. Plus a lot of people are unaware of the effort maintaining a blog like this can be.

Anyone want to lend me a Spartan or commission one for September?

    • Blogs can be a lot of work. I increased my blog output as well so need a bit of a vacation from that as well. I’d prefer to be blogging for the love and not out of necessity.

  4. Having been in the same position of putting a lot of work into painting and coming up short, I know the feeling. It sucks. By the time life settles down again, you’ll be ready to go again, and wanting to step it up.

Good luck with the move. God, I hate moving.

    • Yeah. It sucked. Life moves on though. I have no regrets with the house hunting. That time could have gone into building a better board. If I had a choice to do it all over again I wouldn’t change a thing.

My wife and I are kind of seasoned veterans when it comes to moving. We averaged a move about every one and a half years prior to our current place. They were all good deals but owners needed the space or listed the house requiring us to move. It’s been almost five years now but we are getting back into the swing of things. Moving is a great time to purge unnecessary clutter. Our new place should be long term.

    • There will never be a shortage of projects. I take the pokemaster approach- gotta catch ’em all.

  6. Sorry you didn’t win the store dude, I can image it being difficult. Hopefully those lessons learned will help with getting future projects done.
Congrats on the new house! And good luck with the move.

    • I’ll do an analysis on the event soon. The house is in the process of getting staged and listed so a lot of decluttering going on. Fingers crossed it sells fast.
