Cult Mechanicus- Kastelen Robot WIP Pt. 3

I think I am getting somewhere with the Kastelen Robot now.  If you’ve been following my Inner Circle progress then you know that the Kastelen Robot has been a problem child.  It was the first Mechanicus model I painted so I was figuring out my colour template.  Then there seemed to be too much yellow and then too much black.  I started from ground zero again.

Robot WIP 41

Last Robot WIP post I remarked that wasn’t sure what the issue was that was bugging but was leaninghighlights were the issue.  I applied them on thick and it wasn’t suiting the model.  I felt the amount of black was an issue as well.  Here’s some photos from my previous posts.

I exchanged some of the black with Leadbelcher and it seems to have suited the aesthetic more.  I exchanged the gun barrel, waist and back with Leadbelcher.

I wasn’t sold on my chipping effects on the armour.  I felt it was best I reapplied Averland Sunset over the model.  The concern now is I’ve painted a few layers on the model so I want to get this right.  This time my Ungor Flesh highlights were thinner.  Then I applied Dorn Yellow and a lot less of it, only touching the corners. I had a lot more Dorn Yellow highlights previously with a final touch of white.  It was too much and I am more pleased with this result.

I am undecided on the forearms, which are currently left in XV-88 with Agrax Earthshade.  Previously they were black.  I’m painting a second Robot and will experiment with that model.  I will be painting one black and one yellow.  The end will stay black.  There seems to be a bit more harmony now.

The black is highlighted with Kabalite Green, Sybarite Green and a final edge with Gauss Blaster Green.  Again the highlights are thinner.

I’m feeling better about the model now.  I just have to decide on the forearms.  I’m relieved because I really want these to be part of my Inner Circle list.  Any thoughts let me know.

Thanks for reading.

  1. I think you are being too critical on yourself, I think the yellow is a great scheme. And the matrix like visor is cool.

    • Yeah I am. Things just weren’t feeling right though. I’m achieving balance in the force now after this update.
