I thought I’d combine the Skitarii Ruststalkers and Infiltrators into one post since the models are very similar to one another. I decided to work on these two units together to make use of the assembly line process. I’m adding these to my Inner Circle project based from the Fall of Cadia.
First off I will show the Infiltrators. I started out with black primer and sprayed Leadblecher over top. I applied Nuln Oil and then drybrushed Necron Compound.
I used XV-88 and Agrax Earthshade is the base colours for the yellow. Naggaroth Night and Druchii Violet is the base for the cables. Regal Blue Drakenhof Nighshade is the base for the sword. Rakarth Flesh and Agrax Earthshade is the base for skull.
I used Retributor Armour, Burnished Gold then Agrax Earthshade for the gold parts. This was mainly done to break up the Leadbelcher. The Princep has a monitor on one of its servitor arms. I used Caliban Green for the monitor.
Next I applied Averland Sunset over the XV-88. Looks like I’ll be playing some Flight of the Bumblebee for games. Before Averland I wondered if I had too much black but I don’t think so anymore. The Averland quickly dominates the model.
Now for the Ruststalkers.
I’ve heard the difficulties of working with yellow and I am learning it first hand. It’s a tough colour to highlight and match up with complimentary colours. It worked well with Drycha because it was only a small area. It’s really dominant on the Mechanicus models and I am questioning my decision to use it. If I wasn’t painting this army with a deadline I’d explore other options; but I’m committed to this scheme.
Time will tell if it was the right decision. I’ll find out May 13. That being said I still have to base the models and that may alleviate some of my concerns. My Sylvaneth didn’t have the wow factor until they were based. Fingers crossed.
Thanks for reading.
Cool mate. Great work

How’s the yellow? Work better with these models?

For me yes it does. It’s good to see them in something other than red.

Good to know. You weren’t a fan of the yellow on the Robots so I was interested to know your opinion on other models.

Love these! I’m currently working through my own set of them but ended up managing to break the Princeps beyond repair because the parts were so fiddly. They’re a really lovely kit regardless of the build, but good lord are they fragile

Yea, they’re super fragile. I busted some bits already. Fingers crossed that’s it for damage.

Great progress Alex and I really like the yellow, but then I’m a fan of brighter armies as they stand out better on the tabletop.

Thanks. I need that boost right now. Haven’t been completely sold on my choice of colours. I really want to win Inner Circle. I’ve seen one of my competitors models and I have my work cut out for me. This could be photo finish.

you got this! The thing with competitions like Inner Circle is that it is a marathon of endurance. People can paint amazing miniatures, but can they paint a whole army to that level?
By adding pops of color your AdMech stand out and get noticed, and then they will see all the other hard work you’ve put into the army.

What is making me nervous is this fellow is going to make it to the 18 unit/character max and that is worth extra points. Fingers crossed he didn’t do conversions because I haven’t.

Great dedication to the scheme man. Yellow is one the colors that I loath to use due to my inexperience with it. On the plus side I think so far these have turned out pretty good and you have given me some inspiration for when I start my own ADMECH army. The xv-88+nuln oil coloration looks amazing and works out well for what I have planned, basically wasteland scavengers look, likely meaning lots of browns and muted colors in my future!
Keep up the good fight!

I look forward to seeing your progress. If it matters I used XV-88 and Agrax Earthshade, not Nuln Oil. And yellow, yeah I can understand why people hate it. It’s a tough colour to work with. Thankfully it’s not a horde army.
