I am participating in #MonsterMarch hosted by Swordmaster at Path of an Outcast. The project is assemble and paint a monster during the month of March. I assembled Drycha in January so I got a bit of a head start. The assembly of the model is easy and straightforward. Last week I posted the base colours I applied to the model. This week I completed all the base colours and washes.
I realized I missed some of the inner bark so I had to go around the model and touch up with Rakarth Flesh. I’m a big fan of this colour. I bought it a while back for a specific task. Now it’s an absolute must for my paint collection. It’s versatile and can be used in loads of situations.
I painted white over the Celestra Grey on the sprites. Then I applied Gulliman Blue. The white brightens up the blue.
Now we compare Drycha to the sprites. I applied Gulliman Blue over Celestra Grey. This darkens the blue hue.
I chose to go with the spirit look for the leg pump. Here we have a couple of beetle sprites emerging out from the pump.
I applied Agrax Earthshade over all the Rakarth Flesh. The honeycomb was based with VX-88 and Agrax Earthshade was spread out over the honeycomb as well. Athonian Camoshade was used on the green vines.
The rocks are based with Mechanicus Standard Grey. The next step is Nuln Oil. I used Scorched Brown on the base. That will not be the final colour for the base.

I really like they way you’ve painted the ethereal spirit colours on the model for Drycha, it reminds me of the ice wraiths in ESV: Skyrim. Keep up the fantastic painting work! 🙂

Thanks. It’s a super easy method and gets the desired results. Base colour, shade, drybrush and edge highlights.

It looks really effective for the colour scheme used for it.
Have you tried using gloss varnish for the spirit colour areas? I’m not sure if it will work (probably test it on sample models just to be sure), but it might make it shiny and unnatural in it’s cold spirit appearance.

I have the Tree Revenants to thank for that. After trial and error I tried Celestra Grey as a base instead of white. It works well for the Revenants.

The sprites really pop. The contrast is amazing love it and may have to borrow the idea when I finally get round to painting my kurnoth hunters
