The Roost of Turkadactyl

I present to you my second installment for #Squaduary– Kurnoth Hunters with Great Bows.  I’m a fan of these models.  Now the bows haven’t done much for me in-game but they still look good on the table top.  They look great and have been a treat to paint.  For my first #Squaduary installment check out my Sylvaneth- Tree Revenant post.

I was having issues with the bows.  Initially I painted the bows brown and gold.  I highlighted the brown with different shades from the bark but the bows didn’t stand out from the model.  The I tried black with grey highlights but again I wasn’t satisfied.  I figured I would try the blue “spirit” look and out of the three attempts I was most satisfied with that rendition.  I can almost imagine the bows being activated like lightsabres; click a button and the weapon extends into a bow.

Here are some solo shots.  I’ll start with the Huntmaster.  This is my favourite pose out of the three.

For the arrow I followed the same process as the bows.  The brown and black shafts were not doing it for me so I also switched for a gold shaft.  It will be heresy if Sylvaneth use wood for bows and arrows.  Now gold on the other hand does constitute any moral dilemma.

A close up of the fungus and chest cavity of the Huntmaster.  It’s a pity there wasn’t more fungus sculpted onto the models.  It’s some nice detail added to the model.  If you are interested in how I painted the fungus I started with Scab Red with a highlight of Squig Orange.  I applied Agrax Earthshade with a final highlight of Elf Flesh.

And for the finale I present the Quiverlings.  I chose to go with the spirit them for these little fellas.  I think it ties into the army a lot better.  It’s a nice little addition to the base and adds some more flavour.  I painted the stumps grey to break up the brown.
