Tyranids- Barbed Hierodule

So far I’ve been showcasing monstrous creatures from my Tyranid Hive Fleet Kodiak.  Let’s take this up a notch and include a gargantuan creature- the Barbed Hierodule.  I purchased this model around the time Apocalypse was first released.  Apocalypse made it easier to field the model.  People were not so accepting of Forgeworld models being used in games back in those days so thank you Apocalypse for breaking the ice.

When I assembled this model I was impressed with how large it was.  Nowadays, not so much.  Games Workshops plastic kits have evolved and improved a considerable degree.  Put the Tervigon/Tyrannofex beside this beast and there isn’t much of a size difference.  There is no comparison for detail though.  Forgeworld still wins hands down in that category.

I remember this kit being a pain in the butt to wash.  It’s important to get all of the releasing agent off otherwise primer and paint will not stick.  There are a lot of nooks and crannies on this model.

I don’t get too many games in with this model and I really should change that.

    • Thanks. The detail sculpted on this model is fantastic. My painting does not do it justice but there are tendons sculpted into the flesh.

  3. What a beast! Impressive. Is it this one that spits out a ton of low Ap S10 shots?

    • Yeah. Each bio cannon shoots 6 Strength 10 AP 3 shots. It comes with two bio cannons.

    • Forgeworld sculpted the Rippers onto the base. Hat tip to whoever did the sculpt. Adds some nice character to the model.
