PI have another Sylvaneth Dryad update. This time I have painted the foliage for some contrast from the brown bark. Now that the pink is on I see that the bark is too dark. I will have to remedy that. I’ll experiment by adding another brown into the mix or going with a heavier stroke with the Sylvaneth Bark and Terminatus Stone.
I’m not totally pleased with how dark the brown is. When I drybrushed the brown I was in a bit of a rush. First mistake right there. Never paint when rushed.
For the foliage I started with Screamer Pink. Once that dried I applied Druchii Violet shade and let that sit overnight. The next day I went over with Screamer pink again, this time avoiding the recesses. I followed up with an Emperor’s Children highlight. I used white in the middle of the leaves and for the edges of the hula skirts.
I wrestled with the white. I wasn’t too sure if it was too extreme a contrast from the pink and brown. In the end I decided to run with it. I’m going to lighten the brown a bit so the white will not be extreme. I also think the white breaks up the pink a bit. Cherry blossoms can be found with white and pink.
Next up I will be working on the grey bark Dryad’s. I don’t have any brown paint with me at the moment. Let me know what you think.
In February I posted on Zone Mortalis and options available to purchase. I ended up going with the kickstarter from Death Ray Designs. A new kickstarter has emerged and if this one was available back in February I may have gone with Maze of the Dead from WargameModelMods instead. If you are looking into Zone Mortalis this kickstarter may interest you. I’ve put my eggs into another basket. This one is tempting but I don’t have a tree that grows money, yet. If you do go in I’d love to hear about the quality of the product.
Thanks for reading.
I like the look of them the way they are now. But I have always been a fan of dark colours.

Really like the pink. Looks fantastic on them. Agree with your assesment of the brown though. I do think it is a little dark

The pink is a good contrast to the brown bark but it is maybe a bit too white at the moment. The brown is fine.

Thanks for the input everyone. Perhaps I’ll go with some middle ground for the bark. Lighten it up a bit but not too much. I’m thinking I can lighten up the face and chest a bit more. That should draw the eyes up from the base. I’ll mix some pink with white and try painting that over the white and see if that makes a difference. I was hoping to avoid mixing.

You could always wash the white with red or purple wash? Yeah, lighten the brown, perhaps a drybrush will suffice, or a layer of Zandri dust for yellower tint, or whatever Kommando Khaki is called these days for a paler brown?

I tried a purple wash over the white and I didn’t like it. At least I tried.

Sometimes painting when rushed is good, because you don’t think about what you are doing as much, which sometimes creates some surprising effects.
You can always lighten up or darken down. Their loin clothes look great!
