Poopsmith’s Batcave

We have had a good couple of days. Yesterday the whole team had a day off as well as this morning. I took the time to read the Bunnessan Show catalogue and have decided to enter in three categories. I will enter in the photography categories of Reflection and Rural Life. I am also going to enter in the cheese scone category. I started practicing today. They were good, but definitely not cheesy enough. the show is on the 1st of August so I have a few more days to practice. There is going to be sheep wrasslin’ at the show. that sounds exciting. People will also be bringing in there cattle and sheep to show off. This is what the locals do for fun.

I have established a couple of goals for my time at Camas. One is to take at least one photograph worthy for an Iona community brochure or for their website. the other is to sneak up on one of the sheep and slap it on its back side. The closest I have snuck up on a sheep is about 10 feet.

Michelle and I walked to Fionnphort last night. We enjoyed a pub meal. It is about a 4 mile (6.4 km, there are 1.6 km per mile) walk. Where once we were accustomed to driving, now we must get used to walking. we entertained ourselves by chasing sheep both there and back.

A couple of days ago Tim, one of the Camas staff, showed us how the wind turbine and solar panels work. He also showed us the Aquatron, the Camas sewage system. That part was more intriguing as I am aspiring to be the local Poopsmith. Here is how the Aquatron works. The poop gets flushed and enters the Aquatron. It swirls around in a funnel, much like the funnel waterslide at West Edmonton Mall. that is the slide I affectionately call the toilet bowl. The poop is separated from the water. The poop then drops into a cell while the water is flushed out to sea. The salt water is able to sanitize the water. Every once in a while the hatch is popped and saw dust is sprinkled on the poop and then it is raked to evenly spread it out. After a couples of years it is suitable to use as compost. We are breaking the hatch next week. I have volunteered to do the raking. Hey, if I am going to be the Poopsmith I need to become familiar with my secret lair. I think I will start a contest to name my lair.

If you have not had a chance to do so yet please read the last part of my Run to the Hills entry.  It is of upmost importance that people read the last section ‘The Visitor’.
